Rhombus IM Server

The Rhombus IM Server is the core of the Rhombus IM platform. It is a pure Java application that provides your enterprise with the cutting-edge integration and messaging features that you need.

1. The Basics

   Rhombus IM supports all of the critical IM features you've gotten accustomed to - one to one messaging, group conferencing, emoticons, and file transfer.

2. Group Conferencing

   With Rhombus IM Server, you can dynamically create conference rooms for ad hoc meetings, or create permanent conference rooms for helpdesk functions or recurring meetings.

3. Message Security

   Rhombus IM uses state-of-the-art SSL protocol security to encrypt message traffic from client to server to ensure no confidential information is compromised.

4. Active Directory and LDAP Integration

   Our industry-leading directory integration is the best you'll find among any of our competitors. Connect to a variety of LDAPv3 compatible servers or Active Directory for enterprise-grade authentication. Rhombus IM even displays user metadata like e-mail addresses and phone numbers.

   Rhombus IM will automatically detect a user's group memberships and OU and create groups in his or her buddy list that dynamically contain other users. You can use this feature to set up user communities automatically, with no user intervention, speeding adoption.

5. Kerberos Authentication

   Integrate Rhombus IM with your Kerberos infrastructure for enhanced authentication security.

6. Permissions-based Security

   Control individual user permissions, like file transfer and audio conferencing. You can limit access to these features on a user-by-user basis, or integrate it with group memberships that are stored in your LDAP or Active Directory.

7. AOL and MSN Integration

   Communicate with users of AOL Instant Messenger(R) and MSN Messenger(R) services without opening your whole network to adware, spam and worms. Our tunneled approach allows you to control and limit access, monitor usage and message traffic and keep rogue applications out of your network.

8. Auditing and Compliance

   Some businesses require communications with customers to be tracked and recorded for compliance purposes. Others may want to hold on to conversational records in case they become valuable in the future. Rhombus IM logs all messages that pass through it and can display them in a human readable form. Auditing can also be completely disabled for security conscious customers.

9. Database Support

   If you have large volumes of data going through your IM system, you'll want to leverage your existing investment in database technology. Our platform can use most widely deployed third-party databases.

10. Web Administration Interface

    Add and administer users with a simple, easy to understand web interface. There is no extra software to deploy, and you can configure new user accounts from anywhere on your network.

11. Virtual Domains

    Create separate messaging domains from within the same Rhombus IM administration console for different companies that you are providing service for, or for different parts of your organization.

12. Clustering

    Rhombus IM Enterprise can scale to tens of thousands of concurrent users when running in a cluster of multiple server machines, operating together. Rhombus IM fully takes advantage of a clustered deployment. You can cluster using UDP multicast or TCP unicast.

13. Standards-based Wire Protocol (XMPP)

    Rhombus IM is based on an XML instant messaging and presence IETF standard known as XMPP/Jabber. Since our protocol is not proprietary, you can use a wide variety of client applications, code libraries and extensions seamlessly with Rhombus IM Server.

14. Development API

    Advanced Java API makes it easy to create interactive agents and services that run as part of the IM Server.
